Skadar Lake – Virpazar

The Skadar lake national park is without a doubt one of the most beautiful national parks and one of Montenegro’s
trademarks. In 1983, the Montenegrin part of the lake (40,000 hectares) was declared a national park. The lake size of 391 km2 makes it the largest lake in the Balkan. What makes lake Skadar widely known is the richness of its øora and fauna with over then 100 very rare or endangered species. With over then 930 species of algae and 280 species of birds among which the Pelican is a trademark, Skadar lake is one of the most attractive habitats of wildlife.
A boat ride during which you will have the opportunity to see the rich cultural and religious heritage of Montenegro:
numerous fortresses, monasteries, archeological sites, traditional cuisine, untouched nature, pelicans… are just some
of the beauties that await you in the Skadar lake national park. Besides Skadar lake, you will also be able to visit the small fishing village Virpazar which has only 337 inhabitants, but which offers you peace and hospitality. There is also a visitor center Vranjina, which has a gallery with exhibits of nature, reliefs of all national parks of Montenegro, an ethno room and other possibilities. 

• Day of the excursion: monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday, sunday.
• Departure from Tivat at 08:00 hours.
• The journey continues through Budva, Petrovac and Sutomore. Above Jaz beach you will have a photo break at about 8 hours and 30 minutes.
• In the restaurant above Sv. Stefan (city-hotel) you will have a photo break around 9:00 hours for 20 minutes.
• Arrival to Virpazar around 10:00 hours. Immediately you arrive, there will be a boat ride during which you will have the opportunity to see our natural beauties that will leave you breathless and deeply engrossed in your memory.
  During the ride for 2.5-3 hours, you will have a swim break and the opportunity to see the fortress Grmužur,
  monastery Sv. Nikola, monastery Kom, fortress Lesendro, Žabljak Crnojevića… During the cruise, you will be served with local specialties (fritters with cheese or honey), and there is also a canteen (prosciutto, cheese, olives), homemade wine, brandy, homemade juice (of pomegranate, drenjine, apple, nettle).
• After the boat ride, the rest of the time for 1 hour can be used for a traditional lunch in authentic restaurants located on the shore of the lake where you can try some of the river and lake specialties, as well as visit the small national park museum where you will be introduced to the flora and the fauna of the lake as well as the traditional Montenegrin house.
• Afet that is planned a visit to the visitors center in Vranjina, where you will see the relief forms of all the national parks in Montenegro, as well as numerous exhibits of plant and animal species characteristic of our climate and the caves of wines Plantaže.
• Afet the break is a return trip to Tivat.
• Return to Tivat about 16 hours and 30 minutes.
