If a for some cultural, historical and religious monument can be said to be recognized by Montenegro in the world, not only in christianity but also in Islam, it is certainly the Ostrog monastery. Ostrog monastery with the relics of St. Vasilija the wonderworker is the largest shrine in Montenegro. The monastery was erected in 1650, consisting of the lower and upper monasteries and a newly built church dedicated to the Martyr Stanko, located above the lower monastery. The church holds the hands of the holy martyr Stanko, a shepherd from the village Podvrace near Danilovgrad, who was cut and killed by the Turks because he refused to accept islam. The upper Ostrog monastery is located at 900m above sea level. It consists of two churches dedicated to the Holy Cross and the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin, and it preserves the relics of St.Vsilija Ostroškog, who have healing powers. The lower monastery is dedicated to St.Trojica.
