Varošica Šavnik, the administrative center of the municipality of Šavnik, is located in the composition of the three rivers Bukovica, Bijela and Šavnik at an altitude of 840 meters. It is a settlement at the lowest elevation in the municipality. Unlike most settlements in the municipality, which date back several centuries, the settlement of Šavnik is new, founded in 1861. It was founded by settlers from other parts of Montenegro and Herzegovina. These were merchants, blacksmiths and blacksmiths, occupations that were necessary for small-scale herders and warriors. The area was overgrown with willows, and the newly created town got its name from the willows – willow rods that were used as a roof covering. Until the construction of the first houses on the site of today’s town, there were two village mills on the river Šavnik. The first three houses that were built in Šavnik were: mehana with shop, tufegdžinica (weapon repair shop) and blacksmith shop. Since the largest part of Drobnjak was annexed to Montenegro immediately before that, the place began to develop rapidly and quickly became the administrative center of the court of Drobnjak, a regional television and school were built, a command, telephone administration and captain’s office were established.
