Risan (Latin: Risinium) is today only a town settlement (quarter) in the municipality of Kotor in Montenegro with 2,083 inhabitants. Risan lies in the extreme north of Boka Kotor, 17 km from Kotor, in the penultimate bay of the same name. The settlement itself lies on a narrow coastal strip, surrounded by the Dinaric mountains; Glogovo brdo (939 m), Čelac (850 m), Ušanik (844 m), Sokolova greda (664 m) and Struge (945 m).
