Kolašin is a town settlement in the municipality of Kolašin in Montenegro. According to the 2003 census, there were 2989 inhabitants (according to the 1991 census, there were 2817 inhabitants). In terms of the size of the territory, the municipality of Kolašin ranks sixth in the Republic of Montenegro with an area of 894 km². Kolašin is located in the upper and middle reaches of the Tara and Morača rivers. It is surrounded by mountain ridges and mountain peaks: Sinjavina, Bjelasica, Komova and Vučja. The town of Kolašin was founded by the Turks in 1651 as their fortress and caravan station from the coast to the north.
