Igalo is a town in the municipality of Herceg Novi in Montenegro. The geographical position and astonishing beauty of nature make Igalo and Herceg Novi the most attractive tourist locations on the Adriatic coast of Montenegro. Igalo is known as a tourist place, and thanks to the medicinal – sea mud from Blatna plaža – or as it is also called Stara banja, it is the center of health tourism in Montenegro. Igalo is also known for its unexploited mineral water called “Igaljka”. As early as the thirties of the last century, an examination of Igalo mud was carried out in the laboratory of the famous French health resort Vichy (“Vichy”), which definitively confirmed its exceptional medicinal properties, but only after the Second World War, on the initiative of Mirko J. Stijepčić, who hired Dr. Svetozar Živojnović’s long-ago plans to establish a health resort in Igalo were realized, which was finally established by the Decision of the Government of Montenegro on November 1, 1949.
