Dubrovnik (Lat. Ragusa — Ragusa) is a city in Croatia and the administrative center of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Dubrovnik is a port and tourist attraction located on the Adriatic Sea in the extreme south of Croatia in Dalmatia. It is 237 km from Split, and 624 km from Zagreb. The three cities of the vast Balkan peninsula, Istanbul on the eastern side, Athens on the southern side and Dubrovnik on the western side are known all over the world as tourist spots. This is important to them determined by the very natural position and wealth that surrounds them, which is not the only reason for their power. In their past, these cities were meeting places and arenas of judgment of world currents, and each of them has its own special character. Dubrovnik was hit from all sides. Because of the narrow space, his ships left their mark on the wider world, and trade caravans penetrated far into his background. Constantly surrounded by those stronger than him, he built strong ramparts for his defense, and in his defense he used his diplomacy much more than military strength.
